OVERVIEW

Lake Duluti is a volcanic crater lake in the Arusha region of Tanzania, on the eastern edge of the eastern branch of the Great Rift Valley. It is located in Meru District near the town of Tengeru and is almost 14 kilometres from Arusha city centre and 1.31 kilometres (0.81 mi) from the Arusha-Moshi road. It is almost 9m deep at the center and the sides at the shore vary.

Lake Duluti is surrounded by thick forests and one of the ways to explore the beauty of the lake is by walking and canoeing. These thick forests are home to many reptiles as it provides a suitable environment for hunting and nesting. Monitor lizards, some of which can be as big as 2m, can be seen basking on old broken trees. The lake itself also provides the perfect habitat for water birds and Duluti is claimed to have up to 130 different species. The most common birds that can be seen include grey herons, fish eagles, cormorants, ospreys, egrets and kingfishers.
